The World Poker Tour announced Tuesday that it will be teaming up with social netwokring site MySpace to create a WPT community on MySpace.com. The new MySpace community will include an online poker game designed by MySpace software affiliate Oberon, as well as tips, player profiles, behind-the-scenes video clips from the WPT, tournament news, and a ClubWPT.com TV series.
The poker game itself will reportedly allow MySpace members to play against each other in real time and will also feature live and private WPT-style tournaments. The game will also be free - presumably to net American users for whom a pay game would be illegal - but for those players looking to really get into it, the WPT-MySpace community will also offer membership in channel sponsor ClubWPT.com's official club for $19.95 a month. Membership, according to the companies, will include "The chance to play and win over $100,000 in cash and prizes each month, like seats into WPT main events."
"Poker and social networking have separately reached and engaged people around the world in ways like nothing we've seen before," WPT president Steve Lipscomb said. "As poker continues to see major growth across the globe, this partnership meets the demand for a poker experience that appeals to enthusiasts of all levels."
